About WEEE and RoHS
Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE)
Restriction on Hazardous Substances (RoHS)

The WEEE and RoHS directives are designed to tackle the waste stream of electrical and electronic equipment. Producers will be responsible:

  • for taking back and recycling electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE directive)
  • for substituting hazardous substances in new equipment (RoHS directive).

Compliance with the Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive

TOSHIBA TEC Europe Retail Information Systems (TERIS) is committed to compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, including the European Union Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive (2002/95/EC) that will restrict the use of lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium and bromine-containing flame retardants: PBB (polybrominated biphenyls) and PBDE (polybrominated diphenyl ethers) in electrical and electronic products.

TERIS' goal is to exceed compliance obligations by meeting the requirements of the RoHS Directive by July 1, 2006.
RoHS substances will be virtually eliminated (to levels below legal limits) for all TERIS electronic products subject to the RoHS Directive, except where it is widely recognized that there is no technically feasible alternative (as indicated by an exemption under the EU RoHS Directive).

TOSHIBA TEC publishes a yearly sustainability report in which it describes its Environment policy and the obtained results.

TOSHIBA TEC’s initiative to address the RoHS Directive is part of the company’s “Monozukuri” program which includes environmental conscious activities like “Green Procurement”, using materials more efficiently, finding alternatives for hazardous materials, designing for energy efficiency and designing products that can be easily recycled.
More detailed information can be found at: http://www.toshibatec.co.jp/en/csr/report/

Certificates of (RoHS) Compliance for specific products can be obtained on demand.

On behalf of TOSHIBA TEC Europe Retail Information Systems: Brussels, 1 January 2008.

M. Kusunoki

President TOSHIBA TEC Europe Retail Information Systems S.A.
